Invisalign®: A Clear Solution for Straightening Teeth

Orthodontic issues like crooked or crowded teeth or a misaligned bite not only affect a person's appearance, but they can also harm your oral health. We recommend addressing orthodontic issues in patients of all ages to help ensure our patients' ongoing oral health, comfort, and confidence. We understand that the drawbacks of traditional braces prevent many patients from seeking orthodontic treatment, and that's why we offer Invisalign® as an effective treatment alternative to metal braces.

What Is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is an orthodontic treatment system that uses snuggly fitting aligner trays made of smooth, clear plastic, instead of the traditional system of wires, brackets, and rubber bands.

How Clear Aligners Work

Invisalign's clear aligner trays are worn over the top and bottom arches of a patient's teeth. The trays are custom-designed to fit snuggly and place gentle pressure on the teeth.

The entire system is graduated with the first set of trays being molded slightly differently from the patient's current teeth alignment and the final set of trays being molded in the desired alignment. As a patient wears and moves through the system of clear aligners, the pressure they exert gradually shifts the teeth into the desired locations, arrangement, and alignment.

Invisalign's aligner trays must be worn for around 20-22 hours each day to be most effective and prevent the teeth from regressing and moving back toward their original positions. Each set of trays is worn for one to two weeks depending on your particular treatment schedule. Altogether, the total length of treatment can vary from a couple of months to about a year and a half, depending on the complexity of the orthodontic issues being corrected. Dr. Logan will help formulate a treatment plan that best suits you and your smile goals!

What Orthodontic Issues Can Invisalign® Correct?

Invisalign® best addresses minor to moderate cases of orthodontic issues such as:

  • Crooked or crowded teeth
  • Tooth gaps
  • Malocclusion (bite problems)
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite

More complex or severe orthodontic issues might be better addressed with traditional braces or other types of orthodontic appliances. Our dentists can help you determine whether or not you are a good candidate for successful treatment with Invisalign®.

The Benefits of Treatment with Invisalign®

Invisalign® offers many benefits over treatment with traditional braces:

Discreet

One of the primary benefits of Invisalign® is that it is a virtually invisible treatment system that allows patients to straighten their teeth without bulky braces.

Comfortable

While metal braces and wires can poke or rub against soft tissues, Invisalign® is made of smooth plastic that is gentle on the cheeks, tongue, and lips.

Minimal Lifestyle Changes

Invisalign® aligner trays can be removed during meals which means that patients can continue enjoying all of their favorite foods during treatment. Additionally, Invisalign® aligner trays are safe to wear during sports and athletic activities, so you don't have to worry about your orthodontic treatment impacting participation or performance.

Easy Care

Invisalign® treatment doesn't require any special oral hygiene tools. Simply brush and floss after every meal, and replace your aligner trays on designated dates set by your dentist’s treatment plan to maintain a healthy smile.
