Initial Consultation
Before pursuing dental implants, patients should undergo a comprehensive exam at our Flowood, MS, practice. During this appointment, one of our dentists will evaluate the health of your natural teeth, gums, and jaw joints. We will use digital x-rays and scans to see a complete view of your facial structure and to determine your jawbone density.
Dental Implant Surgery
If our dental team determines you are a good candidate for implants, we will schedule your implant surgery. During this visit, Dr. Danny O'Keefe or Dr. Jan O'Keefe Belote will strategically place the implant in your jawbone. This step can be completed under dental sedation to provide optimal comfort during your procedure.
Healing Period
Once the implant is placed in the jawbone, it must fuse to the bone tissue through a process called "osseointegration." This step takes about four to six months, on average, though it may take longer in some cases. We may be able to provide a temporary restoration for you to wear during this time.
Abutment Placement
After the initial healing period, we will attach a small connector post – called an "abutment" – to the implant. The abutment extends just beyond the gums and provides an anchor for your new crown, bridge, or denture. A second healing period of a few weeks is usually required so the gums can heal around the abutment.
Attachment of Restoration
Once your gums are fully healed, we can attach your final restoration. After this appointment, you will walk out of our office in Flowood, MS, with a natural-looking, functional smile.
